The Talisman
I will give you a talisman.
Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test: Recall the face of the poorest and weakest man you have seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him.
Will he gain anything by it?
Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny?
In other words, will it lead to Swaraj (freedom/empowerment) for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?
Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
~ Mahatma Gandhi
* The Talisman is a special object or amulet believed to confer on its bearer supernatural powers and protection. It is also thought to bring healing and success. The word “talisman” has its origins in the Arabic “tilsam” and from the Greek verb “teleo” which means primarily to accomplish, to bring into effect or to initiate into the mysteries.
This was new information for me. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you Richard. When I came upon this quote by Gandhi it did something magical to me – I had to reorient my mind in a new way too. That I suppose is the power of a great soul in imparting truths. Thank you so much for visiting! Sharon

It is 8:15 a.m. here in my world, Canada. Thank you for a beautiful post. Whose cute toes do I see? 🙂 Hugs to you Shaz. Renee 🙂
A wonderful good morning to you my dearest Renee! I’ve just tucked my little one in bed and having a quiet evening here this Saturday. Thank you so much for noticing these precious little toes! They belong to a young Afghan boy I befriended while we were living in Kabul in 2009. I found him and his brothers digging about inside a dumpster on our street and I invited them home and we became friends. There isn’t a day that I don’t think of them. Thank you Renee for caring! Hugs always, Shaz
awwe Shaz. YOU are one special lady. What a touching story. It breaks my heart to ever imagine a child having to dig in a dumpster for food. I only hope for no starvation in our world. You have a wonderful evening. hugs.. Renee 🙂
