About Me
I am inspired by everyday heroes. People who live with honour, kindness, dignity and selflessness - despite the odds. I believe that making the world a better place is not just rhetoric but a responsibility.
My source of inspiration comes from the Bahá’í Writings and the life of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. An advocate for peace. A hero of unequalled parallel. I have the deepest admiration for the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and the enduring insights of Thich Nhat Hanh.
I like to tinker about with photography. And potter about in the kitchen. Nothing gives me more pleasure and fills the home with more warmth than the gathering of family and friends around the kitchen table over a good hot meal.
A Malaysian born Chinese, I’m slowly evolving into a 40-year old country bumpkin who enjoys long silent walks in the woods. My home address is currently Finland, Land of A Thousand Dazzling Lakes.
I have been married to the same chap for the last 14 years. He still makes me laugh. And cry. We have a five year old son. He still makes us pinch ourselves in wonder.

So, today, I received a small package in the mail that came all the way from Helsinski. When I saw it just outside my front door, I gasped; when I picked it up to see the address of its sender (of which there was none…only a postmark), tears of delight and joy and overwhelmment filled my eyes. My partner, who saw the look on my face, ran up to me, asking me if I was ok. I was speechless; I simply showed her the package, and her expression then mirrored my own. I have spoken of you many times to her, and she loves you nearly as much as I do. When I opened the package, I smiled and laughed with girlish amazement at the fact that you remembered from some long ago post that blueberries are my absolute favorite!! I cannot wait to try the coffee first thing tomorrow morning, and the chocolates are DIVINE!!!!
Your kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity warmed my heart far beyond any language that could possibly serve to communicate how full it is. Thank you, friend. And, I would be most honored if you would please send me your address (apitts1970@yahoo.com).

I received your beautiful message and noted the significance of the date you wrote it. Do you remember my grandmother who showed me the essence of mindfulness just in the way she folded every piece of laundry? She passed away on the exact day you wrote me.
I was back in Malaysia just in time to see her and hold her hand for one last time before she left us. I’m sending this from Malaysia and will be heading back home to Finland in a week’s time.
Please accept my deepest apologies for this very late reply. I have thought of your words every single day since. More than that, I have been profoundly touched by the place of thoughtful kindness that it came from.
It has taken me a while to get back to writing and to sending back replies to the many kind friends who have written to ask about my bout of silence. I am not sure if this is what is known as bereavement. All I know is that it has been a time of wordlessness and silent reflection.
I want to thank you so much for taking the time to send me this message. I’m still grappling to find the right words to let you know how much it means to me. So much love and blessings to you and your family as we welcome in the New Year.
